Stay Powered HQ is a research-based resource. Our goal is to explain the essentials of home backup power — portable power stations, solar generators, home batteries, standby generators and outage preparation — so you can understand the options and choose what fits your needs.
Where our information comes from
We are transparent about our sources. The specifications, capacities, runtimes and prices in our guides come from manufacturer documentation, official product listings, published technical standards and reputable public sources. We compile, organise and explain that information in plain language; we do not present manufacturer figures as our own laboratory measurements.
How we build a guide
For each topic we research the current products and standards, compare the specifications that matter during a real outage — usable capacity, power output, recharge options, fuel type, safety features and value — and summarise the trade-offs so you can match a product to your situation. We also explain the underlying concepts, such as watts versus watt-hours, battery chemistry and sizing, so the numbers make sense.
What we are — and what we aren’t
We are an independent, education-first guide. We are not a hands-on testing lab and we do not claim to have bench-tested every unit on the market. When a figure is a manufacturer rating or an estimate, we say so. Where real-world results are known to differ from marketing claims, we point it out based on the best available public information.
Editorial independence
Our guides are not for sale and our recommendations are never influenced by advertisers. We update them as new models launch and as information changes. If you spot something that needs correcting, please tell us via our Contact page.
